Leonor Fini
Leonor Fini (1908-1996) was born in 1908 in Buenos Aires. The future artist spent her childhood and youth in Trieste, then lived in Milan, and from 1931 she moved to Paris, with which she connected all of her further creative life.
In Paris, she met with artists Max Ernst, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali, poet and artist Max Jacob, poet Paul Eluard, philosopher and writer Georges Bataille and photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson. Entering the circle of surrealists and participating in their exhibitions, she, nevertheless, retained independence.
Leonor Fini was engaged in painting, graphics, design, literature, worked in theater and cinema. A series of twenty-two etchings entitled “Council of Love” was published by Pierre Argile in 1972.
The artist’s images are distinguished by grace, sophistication and sinister beauty, something akin to her own appearance. American art dealer Julian Levy said of her: "Her grace is angelic, her look is devilish."
