The Art Holding Tatyana Nikitina Gallery presents a project combining author's porcelain, graphics, painting and sculpture by Ivan Tarasyuk, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.
Today, Ivan Tarasyuk is a world-famous artist, a participant in many dozens of exhibitions in Russia and abroad. His recognizable work included the traditions of the Russian and European avant-garde (Pablo Picasso, Fernand Leger, Natalia Goncharova), folk toys and - the irony of modernity. The friendly characters of his work - working people, musicians, clowns, dancers and acrobats - have now moved to the snow-white surface of porcelain products of the old Imperial Porcelain Factory.
It would seem that porcelain art is by its very nature far from modern art - it seems traditionally conservative, rigorous, seasoned. But no - in any era, porcelain responded to the calls of time, its development is part of the history of art. It seems magic that on plates and dishes made in the 1960s and 1980s that were forgotten in the bins of the technical department of the plant (namely, the origin of porcelain miracles from Tarasyuk’s workshop), modern images appeared: funny characters of the artist’s drawings and paintings. Some of them crossed to the surface at a temperature of 900 degrees using the decal technique, and some arose directly from the artist’s brush. Inscribed in traditional design, they have united generations, connected the past and the present.
Porcelain Tarasyuk not only expands the boundaries of his work, feels fidelity of line and color, but also subjects the prototypes of compositions transferred to new material to a test for decorativeness. And they pass this test, remaining the same verified, expertly built and invariably ironic, without revealing hidden meanings at first sight.
